Update: Zoom Addresses Security Concerns of Users

Last month, VICE published an article raising concern that Zoom was sending user data to Facebook. Zoom has never sold any data or sent personal data to Facebook. You can read more about our response in this blog post. VICE later published an updated article.

As you you probably know, there has been a surge in demand for Zoom over the past few weeks.  In face, Zoom is on of the most reliable video conferencing platforms available today, while other's have crashed, Zoom has kept up the increased demand and performed wonderfully.

But, with a surge of users, many who are new to video conferencing, it provides and opportunity to take advantage of them by online pranksters, hackers and "bad actors".  There have been several online articles about anonymous meeting attendees (those not directly invited, but attending online meetings) sharing content during those meetings.  Most (if not all) of those situations could be avoided with a basic understanding of the Zoom application, and how to set either global or meeting-by-meeting preferences.  Zoom has documented many of these security settings in this blog post.

Additionally, Zoom has addressed concerns on encryption for both Zoom Meetings and Zoom Webinars.  This blog post from Zoom, provides a breakdown of the range of measures Zoom takes to ensure your video stream is safe and security, regardless of the network used.

When it comes to video conferencing, you have a choice of which application to use.  Zoom has designed an application that is perfect for today's world of business and personal communications.  As with any application (online or phone), it is important to review how it operates, how to secure it to your personal or company's policies, and what information is shared (or not shared) with your implied permission once you use the application.
